Savannah
Volunteer Guards Membership
The Bylaws of the
Savannah Volunteer Guards establish three classes of membership; Regular,
Life and Associate. The total of all classes shall not exceed 250 members.
Regular Member
Any member who has served one (1) year or more in the Georgia National
Guard and at least six (6) months in a unit designated as the Volunteer
Guards by the State of Georgia and accepted by the Corporation or served
in the Medical Detachment of the 118th Field Artillery Regiment prior
to September 16, 1940. Regular members may become eligible for Life Membership
by making a lump sum payment of $40.00.
Life Members
All Personnel who were inducted into Federal Service in world War I with
the Savannah Volunteer Guards on 5 August 1917 or were assigned or enlisted
in the Guards prior to 1 January 1918.
Additionally, all
Personnel of the 118th Field Artillery designated as the Savannah Volunteer
Guard and were inducted into Federal service in World War II on 16 September
1940 and Personnel who were assigned or enlisted in this Unit prior to
1 January 1941.
Associate
Members
- May be Retired
or Lineal.
- Any person who
is retired active duty from any branch of the Regular Armed Forces is
eligible for this class of membership.
- Any person who
is a legal, direct descendant of a current or former member of the Savannah
Volunteer Guards Corporation may apply as a lineal member. A direct
descendant is defined as children, grandchildren and great-grand children.
- Associate members
may become eligible for Life Membership by making a lump sum payment
of $100.00 after one year of membership.
All applications for
membership shall be made in writing. The application form is available
from the Secretary of the Corporation and must be vouched for by two (2)
members in good standing and submitted to the Secretary. The Board of
Directors and the Membership must favorably vote upon applications for
membership.
